Documented NY & NYU STUDIO 20, Capstone Project

I am developing Caribbean immigrant audiences for Documented NY through Nextdoor social media app. I am creating prototype content for two sample Nextdoor accounts for Documented. Using the two accounts, I am conducting A/B tests among Caribbean immigrants across New York City to figure out what kinds of information they need and how best to deliver it on the platform.

Jan - may 2023

The Wall Street Journal, Digital Platforms Intern

I managed WSJ’s social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and wrote social language for articles. Additionally, I worked with cross-functional teams to develop and manage content for the WSJ mobile app and website. I also worked with the SEO team to develop trends reports and strategies to optimize engagement with our audience.

JAN - MAY 2023

The City & NYU STUDIO 20, Project Manager

As a graduate student at NYU Studio 20, I serve as the project manager for our collaboration with The City, a New York-based local news outlet. Our team worked as a media consultant, providing services to The City as our client. In this capacity, I oversaw three projects.

The first project involved the development of an API-powered digital tool that collects civic information needs from various social media platforms, including Reddit. Our goal was to help The City better understand the needs of New York City residents.

The second project evaluated the feasibility of physical delivery of journalism. We conduct experiments to determine the degree to which this approach can be successful for the city.

Finally, my team and I launched The City's TikTok account and created a social media strategy for it.

2021-2022

CNN International, Editorial package producer (Part-time)

I produced, reported and wrote news packages for the International Content Unit. I also created infographics for CNN shows.

Jan - April 2021

The New York Times Journalism Institute, Student reporter

I profiled Samaria Rice and other members of the Cleveland community through Zoom as part of a series, concerning families of victims of police brutality, for the New York Times institute website. I also attended workshops by Times’ editors and reporters.

Dec, 2020 - feb, 2021

Reynolds Journalism Institute Innovation Competition 2021, Finalist

My passion for technology drove me to conceive a digital news categorization tool. The “Story Timeline Tool” allows readers to find everything about a news story with one click and subscribe to it. To pull off the project, I Recruited a team of classmates to Successfully pitch the idea to institute judges. I led the Implementation of the tool on the Athens News website. The product helped grow the website’s on-site traffic by 3%.

2020- 2022

E.W. Scripps school of Journalism, Research and Teaching Assistant

I worked with Dr. Victoria LaPoe, vice president of the Native American Journalists Association, to publish two research papers to Howard Journal of Communications. Previously, I co-authored two journal articles focusing on resistance and black lives matter. As a researcher, I was primarily in-charge of calculating and analyzing qualitative data from social media and other news outlets, using NVIVO and SPSS softwares.

I also taught “Intro to Journalism” and “Multiplatform Reporting” classes. I led a lab of around 20 journalism undergraduate students each semester working on publication-ready articles. I helped students with entire reporting process, including ideas, pitches, and reporting avenues.

2019-2020

Los Angeles Times, Features Intern

I worked at the Los Angeles Times headquarters from July 2019 to January 2020. I primarily worked for the features and food department, where I helped produce two food series on YouTube (Off Menu and The bucket list) and authored several articles on travel, fashion and metro life.

2019

U.S. News and World Report, Freelance Writer

I was a midwest correspondent for U.S. News and World Report from april to May 2019. I wrote a feature on budget inequality in rural school districts and its impact on students.

2016-2019

The Post, Senior Writer

I started at The Post, a nationally recognized student newspaper at Ohio University, as a culture reporter. I was able to climb up the ranks to become a senior writer for the special projects division and produced several in-depth, award-winning, feature-length stories with photos and videos.

One of my most notable pieces of work include an enterprise feature on an inconspicuous farm, used by plant biology professors to teach students about sustainable agriculture. That feature won 2019 Ohio News Media Association best multimedia package in student journalism.

I also produced a feature on a Gambian national who fled his homeland to study in the U.S. That feature won 2019 Ohio News Media Association’s best culture and entertainment coverage award in student journalism.

Consecutively, I guided budding journalists with multimedia and long-form projects. I was also a part of the multimedia team, producing explainer videos, documentaries, and interviews for an online audience.

2018

The Wire, India, Editorial Intern

I covered political conferences and the death of Indian statesman M. Karunanidhi. The latter coverage ranked consistently as a top story throughout the week.

2018

The Hindu, India, Metro Intern

While working for the second-most circulated English-language daily in India, I covered breaking news and metro stories about government initiatives and cultural events. I produced two multimedia pieces about local artists and Indian expats fighting for work visas in Mauritius. I also Gathered sources and interviewed them for the foreign desk virtually.

2018

Ministry of External Affairs, India, Publicity Intern

I was in-charge of editing and curating the ministry’s flagship magazine, India Perspectives, fall edition. I also hosted several state dignitaries and diplomats during their official visits in New Delhi.
